LATEST F1 NEWS: confusion at Toro Rosso

By Pat Espresso

Toro Rosso’s announcement that drivers Sebastien Buemi and Jaime Alguersuari are to drive for the team next year appears to have been slightly premature.

For the 21-year-old Swiss driver Buemi quickly slapped down team boss Franz Tost for saying that he and his Spanish colleague were “both confirmed” for next year.

Buemi told Blick newspaper: “I haven’t signed anything yet. There are still some details missing and the driver market is still open.”

Toro Rosso might come to regret upsetting Buemi, for Renault chief Eric Boullier told journalists at Silverstone last weekend that the driver “is on our list” of potential replacements for the Russian Vitaly Petrov.

And Red Bull’s controversial driver boss Helmut Marko said the company “might consider placing Buemi in the Red Bull team in 2012.”
