By Pat Espresso

The battle is hotting up among wannabe-teams for the 13th Formula 1 slot next year, with Jacques Villeneuve’s Durango outfit making the loudest bid to get on the grid.

Wild speculation, so far unconfirmed, reports that financing for the Italian team could be coming from a son of Colonel Gaddafi, the desert-dwelling ruler of Libya

The rumours allege that his son Al Saadi Gaddafi, who had hoped to be signed by the Sampdoria soccer club in 2008, is looking to invest some of Libya’s oil revenues in the glitzy world of Grand Prix racing.
